Meta Adds Reels Content Protection

Meta has introduced Facebook Content Protection, a mobile tool that alerts creators when their original Reels are reused without permission and gives them options to block, track, or attribute those reposts across Facebook and Instagram.
Creator controls. When a match is found, creators can block the reel’s visibility, track its performance, or add attribution links back to the original. They can also release a claim if they choose.
Who gets it first. The feature is rolling out to creators in Meta’s Content Monetization program who meet integrity standards and to users of Rights Manager. Eligibility notices appear in the Feed and Professional Dashboard.
How it works. The system uses Rights Manager’s matching tech, shows match percentage and account metadata, and supports an allow list for approved re-uses.
Limits and safeguards. Blocking reduces distribution but doesn’t automatically penalize the alleged infringer; creators can dispute matches via IP reporting, and misuse risks losing tool access.
The tool aims to help original creators protect and monetize Reels while nudging more creators to post on Facebook, though creators should expect gradual rollout and continued limits on enforcement.
