NotebookLM Adds Deep Research

Google is updating NotebookLM with a new “Deep Research” tool designed to automate complex online research and expand how users build structured knowledge.
Research Automation. Deep Research can create a research plan, browse the web, and generate a source-grounded report directly into a user’s notebook.
Flexible Modes. Users can choose Deep Research for full briefings and multi-source synthesis, or Fast Research for quick lookups.
File-Type Expansion. NotebookLM now supports Google Sheets, Drive URLs, PDFs from Drive, and Microsoft Word files for easier importing and summarization.
Workflow Integration. The tool runs in the background, letting users add sources while research continues.
Platform Growth. The update builds on features like Video Overviews, Audio Overviews, and mobile apps introduced earlier this year.
If widely adopted, NotebookLM’s research automation could become a lightweight alternative to standalone research tools, especially for students, analysts, and creators needing fast, structured outputs.
