OpenAI Pushed AI Tax Credit

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is urging the U.S. government to expand the CHIPS Act tax credit to cover AI infrastructure, including servers, data centers, and grid components. The move aims to accelerate domestic AI growth and strengthen the U.S. position in global AI development.

AMIC Expansion. OpenAI wants the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit, originally for semiconductors, extended to AI hardware and data centers, which would require Congressional action.

Investment Plans. OpenAI plans to spend $1.4 trillion over the next eight years building computational resources for AI models like ChatGPT.

Federal Position. The White House clarified that no federal bailout will be provided to AI companies, differentiating the tax credit request from loan guarantees.

Expanding the tax credit could significantly reduce costs for AI infrastructure and encourage domestic production, positioning the U.S. as a hub for AI growth while signaling long-term investment in technology and innovation.
